If life has taught me anything….it’s the lesson of “You get what you pay for”. Handymen flock to the Home Hardware stores, and like kids in a candy store are truly in their element! When I go to a Home Depot or Rona… I am overwhelmed. By the choices, the technical specifications, the flood of information that comes at me from an associate.
Now place this scenario in the world of real estate. You want to sell your home the DIY way, or buy one? You are tech savvy, hungry for information, expert at research. And so you venture forth, basing all your decisions and choices on what you have learnt. But what about the things that the internet does NOT tell you? The pit falls, the red flags, the danger zones?
Your Realtor is trained to sift the good from the bad. To look for those cracks, and save you from the trauma of a deal gone bad. Talking to a Seller directly does not guarantee you will hear everything you need to know, after all he is working in his own interest. Likewise, talking to a buyer direct is no assurance that they are even qualified to close on the purchase of your home.
So do yourself a favor. Let your Realtor work for you. That’s what the professional touch will give you… your peace of mind, an ethical handling of your real estate concerns, genuine effort and continuous hard work to achieve the same goals!
The moral here being… choosing to sell / buy your home DIY does not necessarily save you money.
